Hospital Bed Availability in India

Access to beds per 1000 people is an essential metric when assessing the healthcare infrastructure and living standards of a country. The shortage of hospital beds in India has been a long-standing issue, and it became particularly evident during the COVID-19 pandemic when many regions faced severe bed shortages. In some densely populated areas, the number of available beds per 1000 people might be below the World Health Organization’s recommended minimum of 3.5 beds per 1000 people.

In India, the number of hospital beds only 0.5 per 1000 people, which is relatively lower compared to many developed countries. Efforts are ongoing in India to improve healthcare infrastructure and increase the number of hospital beds to meet the growing healthcare needs of its population. KIMS, has significant presence across three states in India: Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. In Maharashtra, the institution operates with a substantial capacity, offering a total of 334 beds. In Andhra Pradesh, KIMS has a notably larger presence, with a total of 1914 beds.
