Thank you, and good morning. Thanks for joining us for this morning's call to review our second quarter results. We appreciate your continued interest in our company.
Before I turn the call over to our Chief Financial Officer, Dan Dellinger, to discuss our financial results in more detail, I want to touch on a few highlights from a very successful quarter. I'm proud to report our company generated record net income attributable to common shareholders of $4.2 million and record earnings per share of $0.38 per diluted common share during the second quarter of 2019.
Strong organic loan production coupled with our ability to improve our balance sheet mix grew interest income to $20 million for the quarter, which is a 5% quarter-over-quarter improvement and a 21% increase over the second quarter of 2018.
Our bankers again delivered double-digit annualized loan growth, resulting in a 4% quarter-over-quarter increase, 16% annualized and 15% year-over-year. Loans have now grown for 16 consecutive quarters. Second quarter loan production totaled $150 million at a weighted average rate of 5.5%, and came from a broad range of loan categories with all markets contributing. Most impressive our loan growth continues to be 100% organic, derived from end market relationships our bankers have built over many years.
