$CME will exit its credit default swap (CDS) clearing business by mid-2018, freeing up $650MM in clearing member capital. Going forward, $CME will focus its over-the-counter (OTC) clearing services on interest rate swaps (IRS) and foreign exchange (FX), as well as on developing further capital efficiencies for market participants.

Derivatives marketplace $CME reported a 1% annual drop in its average daily volume to 14MM contracts in July. The average options volume decreased 8% to 2.9M contracts per day. Electronic options averaged 2MM contracts per day, up 21% from last year.
Derivatives marketplace $CME has decided to develop futures and options on a new benchmark, following a recent recommendation by the Alternative Reference Rate Committee. It was recommended that the broad Treasuries repo financing rate should serve as the reference rate in certain new US dollar derivatives and other financial instruments.

Options volume averaged 3.6MM contracts per day, up 21%, while interest rate options and energy options average daily volume grew 37% and 22%, respectively. Open interest at the end of June, 2017, was 113MM contracts, up 7% YoY.
$CME's shareholders elected Terrence Duffy, Timothy Bitsberger, Charles Carey, Dennis Chookaszian, Ana Dutra, Martin Gepsman, Larry Gerdes, Daniel Glickman, Leo Melamed, Alex Pollock, John Sandner, Terry Savage, William Shepard and Dennis Suskind each for a one-year term expiring in 2018.
