$MSI signed a contract with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova for the expansion of their mission-critical TETRA communications network. Within the framework of the contract, $MSI will extend the existing TETRA digital radio network and build a nationwide TETRA network for the Moldovan police.
$MSI said it will provide Leipzig/Halle Airport with its new DIMETRA X Core TETRA system. The fully scalable system will replace the existing Motorola DIMETRA IP Compact TETRA infrastructure which has been successfully deployed at the airport since 2008 for mission-critical voice and data communications.
$MSI expects 4Q17 revenue growth of about 3% and non-GAAP EPS of $2.00-2.05. For the full-year 2017, the company lifted revenue growth outlook to about 5% from about 3-4% and non-GAAP EPS guidance to $5.35-5.40 from $5.20-5.30. The full-year forecast assumes current foreign exchange rates and about 169MM fully diluted shares.
$MSI's operating margin for 3Q17 fell to 20.5% of sales from 22.3% in the year-ago quarter. The decline reflects higher costs related to non-U.S. pension settlement losses and intangible amortization expenses. Non-GAAP operating margin decreased to 25.7% of sales from 25.8% in the previous year period.
$MSI's sales for 3Q17 increased 7% overall from the year-ago quarter and rose 5% organically driven by the Americas region. Products segment sales grew 8% driven by the Americas and Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) regions. The Services segment increased 7% driven by the Americas, with global Managed & Support Services growth of 8%.
$MSI announced two new leaders in the company’s Software Enterprise. Alam Ali, VP, Records and Evidence Systems, joins the company from Tersai Corporation. Iain McDonald, VP, Software Deployment and Integration, comes from Microsoft. Ali and McDonald are based in $MSI’s Seattle software design center.
$MSI closed the acquisition of privately-held Kodiak Networks, a provider of broadband push-to-talk (PTT) for commercial customers. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Kodiak adds a complementary, carrier-integrated PTT-over-cellular solution to $MSI's existing mission-critical WAVE PTT portfolio.
Communication solutions firm $MSI has appointed Troy Mattern as the head of cybersecurity for products and services. Mattern, a former head of the Cyber Intelligence Task Force, has more than 25 years of experience in military and cyberintelligence. Previously, he was President of cybersecurity for Zurich Insurance Company.
$MSI commenced patent infringement proceedings against Hytera Communications of Shenzhen, China and Hytera Communications Australia in the Federal Court of Australia by filing an Originating Application and Statement of Claim. This asserts that certain Hytera digital mobile radios offered in Australia infringe three of $MSI's Australian patents.
$MSI has executed a definitive agreement with Airbus SE under which, the company will acquire Plant Holdings, Inc., which holds the Airbus DS Communications business. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The acquisition, expected to be completed by 2017-end, will strengthen Motorola Solutions’ software portfolio.
$MSI has filed fresh patent infringement complaints in the Regional Court of Mannheim in Germany against Hytera Communications Corporation Limited of Shenzhen, China and Hytera Mobilfunk GmbH of Bad Munder, Germany (collectively, “Hytera”). Similar complaints were filed against Hytera in the Regional Court of Düsseldorf on April 18, 2017.
$MSI said it will partner with AI company Neurala to develop intelligent cameras for public safety users. The cameras will help the police conduct search operations more efficiently. Initially, Neurala will work with Motorola to build a prototype that allows for real-time learning for a 'person of interest' search.
Nok Nok Labs has raised $8MM in Series D financing, led by $MSI. Nok Nok Labs will use this latest round of funding to accelerate the deployment of its strong authentication solution across the private and public markets including government, public safety and first responder agencies.
$MSI said it will provide mobile apps, software and services for the FirstNet network as part of its role on the $T team selected by the US government to deliver America's first nationwide wireless broadband public safety network. Working with $T, $MSI will help deliver the broadband devices and solutions that public safety needs.
Equity crowdfunding platform OurCrowd has joined hands with $MSI, Reliance Industries and Yissum to operate an innovation technology incubator to support early stage startups in Jerusalem. The incubator will focus on frontier technologies such as big data, analytics, AI, fintech, storage, IoT and computer vision.
The Boone County Fiscal Court, Campbell County Consolidated Dispatch Board and Kenton County Fiscal Court have jointly selected $MSI to design, build and implement new 700/800 MHz P25 trunked radio system at a cost of $19.49MM. The award includes system infrastructure and 11-year service warranty for parts, service, and software/hardware upgrades.
