Insurance company $UNM reported a decline in 1Q16 earnings due to a rise in income tax expense and higher non-realized investment loss. Net income was $210.6MM or $0.88 per share compared to $212.9MM or $0.84 per share last year. Total revenue grew to $2.73Bil from $2.65Bil. Operating EPS increased to $0.95 from $0.89.

$WFC agreed to hike its payout in a class-action settlement over unauthorized accounts by $32 million to $142 million for its retail sales practices. The settlement will now include customers who were impacted as early as May 2002.
